Right now, the Ugandan Parliament is considering an “Anti-Homosexuality” Bill that, if passed, would be one of the world’s most draconian laws against homosexuality — and a horrifying violation of health and human rights.
Both the US House of Representatives and the Senate will vote next week on two resolutions — HR 1064 and SR 409 [...]

Berman (D-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is the primary sponsor of the bill. The Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill has sparked heated debate, both locally and internationally, surrounding the future of human rights in Uganda. If imposed, the bill will both violate the human rights of the gay community and potentially impact every citizen in Uganda who relies on international aid. Sweden has already stated their disapproval by threatening to [...]

Right now, in Uganda, the Parliament is considering an “Anti-Homosexuality” Bill that, if passed, would be one of the world’s most draconian laws against homosexuality — and a horrifying violation of human rights. Uganda, once the darling of international AIDS circles for its efforts to stop the pandemic, is now becoming a pariah for even considering this [...]

Every 9.5 minutes there is one new HIV infection in the US and forty-five new infections worldwide. This is unacceptable.
Earlier today, I joined a group of medical students, health professionals and other concerned citizens to rally for increased funding for HIV/AIDS programs in the US and around the world.
1-2-3-4, AIDS funding, we want more
we chanted [...]

Last month President Obama released his detailed budget for Fiscal year 2010. Unfortunately, his budget falls short of what is needed to reach goals outlined in the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) reauthorization bill PHR members helped pass last year.
We need your help to make sure Congress and President Obama fulfill their commitment [...]

While in Uganda last week I met with PHR Health Action AIDS Advisor Dr. Peter Mugyenyi, the Director of the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), which provides care to thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS. You may remember that Dr. Mugyenyi was in DC in March with PHR to provide an update on the [...]

Yesterday the lawyer for Drs. Kamiar and Arash Alaei filed a final appeal of their sentencing under article 18 of Iran’s Constitution. This is their last big chance to have their day in court, be acquitted of the charges and resume their lifesaving HIV/AIDS work in Iran and elsewhere.
Next week, May 12 will be an international [...]
